Field trips
Two 2022 MEMO Field Trips will allow you to explore Glencore’s world-class Nickel Rim South underground Mine, and Norcat’s innovative facilities, underground mine, and training center. Nickel Rim South Mine is a modern mine that has been producing nickel, copper, and precious metals ores since 2010. NORCAT works closely with mining companies, mining supply / service organizations, academic institutions, and government partners to develop and deliver customized programs to meet the evolving skills development needs of workers. These exciting virtual experiences will be followed by live Q&A sessions with the presenters.

Take a virtual tour of NORCAT’s Sudbury facilities, including the brand new state-of-the-art surface facilities at the NORCAT Underground Centre in Onaping, Ontario. The NORCAT Underground Centre is an underground operating mine that serves as both an innovation and training centre. It is the one-stop-shop for the future of innovation and technology in the mining industry. Greg Major, Director of the NORCAT Underground Centre, will take us on a tour to showcase our surface and underground facilities. Viewers will have a chance to see our “active laboratory” and learn NORCAT it helps mining companies and startups/SMEs who develop innovative mining technology. Viewers will get a first-hand look at emerging mining technology being tested right at the Underground Centre. The Underground Centre is the global standard for world-class, hands-on, experiential mine skills training and development. Greg will showcase NORCAT’s training programs, underground classrooms, and speak on how NORCAT works closely with mining companies, mining supply / service organizations, academic institutions, and government partners to develop and deliver customized programs to meet the evolving skills development needs of workers. At our head office on Maley Drive, Don Duval, NORCAT CEO will take you on a tour of our facilities, showcase our learning spaces, and the unique training tools, including our award-winning VR training, FiAR, and our simulator training. |

Nickel Rim South Mine (NRS) is a 1.3Mtpy underground hard rock mine, located within the City of Greater Sudbury, Ontario. Operating at depths between 1,100-1,720 metres below surface, NRS has been producing nickel and copper ore streams since 2010 (including minor amounts of cobalt, gold, silver, platinum and palladium) through the application of transverse blasthole mining methods (bulk mining). The current life of mine is Q1 2024 and the site employs approximately 280 direct employees. |
